This weekend marks the official kick-off of 6 days of Halloween in Red Deer. As a part of our never ending efforts to keep residents and new arrivals to Red Deer informed about all things related to the community our Red Deer real estate team thought we’d provide you with a few suggestions of how to make the most of the haunted season before we start planning for the winter one ahead.
4 Halloween Events worth Checking Out in Red Deer
1. Fright Night at the Site @ Rocky Mountain House (October 26, 6PM – 10PM)
One of the most delightfully horrifying events in Central Alberta is found at the Rocky Mountain House this weekend (hopefully you found this blog article in time to check it out). The Rocky Mountain House trading post is a National Historic Site of Canada. Attendees are transported back 200 years to a time not documented but cautiously spoken of with certainty by many generations passed. Guests are invited to take the journey through a reconstructed version of the old fort and then out onto the one kilometer trail through the dark forest found situated along the Saskatchewan River. But this is no nature hike. This PG-13 adventure will have you gripping the arms of companions as zombies and other creatures creep up and surprise all who walk through their domain. This dark wooded region of Alberta serves as the perfect backdrop to provide an unparalleled scare attraction that too will be remembered for generations to come. For more information visit the Rocky Mountain House Facebook page.
2. Zed Haunted House @ 7710 50TH Ave North Red Deer (Daily Until October 31, 6PM – 10PM)
This annual Halloween event offers the best haunted house experience in Red Deer, if not Central Alberta as a whole (with exception of the real ones that are out there). The affair is recommended for ages 10+ up however children under the age of 10 years can attend with parents - but expect them to crawl into your bed to sleep with you for days after. Zed Haunted House uses a combination of animatronics, actors, and scary decor to set its tone and it does so well. Proceeds go to the local Boys & Girls Club so even if you are a little averse to getting spooked senseless when a beast costumed actor jumps out at you unexpectedly you should give it a brave shot for altruistic reasons alone. For more information visit the Zed Haunted House website.
3. Cemetery Tours @ 55th St red Deer (October 26, 2PM)
The clock is ticking on this Halloween tour as well as it comes to a close this coming Saturday afternoon/evening. There is little more classic and creepy than tour of an age old cemetery and local historian Michael Dawe will tell the tale well as you walk through the grounds of the historical cemetery on 55th Street in Red Deer. Michael will detail intriguing stories of the town’s past citizens, some of which have more skeletons in their closets than the caskets under the ground. Unsettling perhaps, but a memorable way to spend Halloween in Red Deer. Click here for more information.
4. Halloween Family Night @ ASHFM (October 29, 6PM – 8PM)
This final recommendation is perfect for all ages of the family (finally, right?). The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame & Museum is hosting its monthly family night in October with the apt Halloween twist. All are encouraged to arrive in costume (favorite sports heroes are especially appropriate for this themed affair) where attendees are treated seasonal games, exhibits, treats, and a family craft that requires each group to bring along a 4 L jug of milk. Intrigued? We are! Visit the ASHFM website for more information.
