It's almost over. The back to school rush may have marked summer's end for most of you yet the season stayed strong with plenty to do, see, and enjoy in Red Deer while the weather held up its end of the bargain through to the third week of September. The continued enthusiasm of locals and visitors alike has carried over from the Best Summer Ever.

Now that title is not an exaggeration from our Red Deer realty team, it is an official mandate from the City of Red Deer itself. This summer Red Deer celebrated its centennial. With it came a wave of initiatives from the governing community that the city would experience its Best Summer Ever, a decree that will now be applied to each subsequent year after this - each one topping its predecessor. So did we get off to a good start?

The onset months (June & July) started off with a bang as family fun events dotted calendar days and various locations throughout the city, with highlights including the Homecoming Festival and River of Light at Fort Normandeau. However August, not to be outdone, was the most consistent community driven spectacle. All month long downtown Red Deer was home to FREE events and concerts which served to entertain the local and visiting masses. Ross Street Patio and Bower Ponds merged to become a shared epicenter of the Best Summer Ever series.

Weekly events, presented by the City of Red Deer and the Downtown Business Association, slated for each Wednesday and Thursday on the Ross Street Patio with weekend celebrations at Bower Ponds, carried the concept through the season right up to this point as we pen today's blog. So with the arrival of the equinox this coming weekend, we know what you're thinking - time to start planning for Halloween, right? Don't pull out the candy and broomsticks yet folks, the Best Summer Ever is still here.

Here's what you can look forward to:

Bull Skit @ Ross Street Patio (Sept 18-19) - This Wednesday (4 PM to 6:30 PM) and Thursday (11:30 AM to 1:30 PM) local sketch comedy group Bull Skit will entertain the masses and perhaps make you or a blushing loved one a part of their interactive improv routine.

Earthdance @ Veteran's Park & Ross Street Patio (Sept 22) - From 3 PM to 7:30 PM this global festival will unite communities from around the world in a celebration of peace through dance, music, art. It may or may not be your thing, but it will be entertaining to watch nonetheless. For more information visit http://earthdancereddeer.googlepages.com/

Tara Lee @ Ross Street Patio (Sept 25-26) - At the same times as the Bull Skit show the week prior, Tara Lee, known to many from KG radio and as a popular local musician, will serenade Ross Street Patio's portion of the Best Summer Ever off into the sunset.

Alberta Culture Days @ Various Red Deer Locations - Red Deer sends the Best Summer Ever away a week passed the equinox with a three day celebration of the arts that showcases the province's artists of a wide variety talents and disciplines. We hope to see you out there for these extended days of summer in the community. For those of you considering joining our fine city, please feel free to contact our Red Deer real estate team anytime. We'd be happy to serve as your welcome wagon no matter the season.
